Fiji rebound continues

Tuesday, 29 December 20093 min read

NADI – Latest figures released by Tourism Fiji show New Zealand visitor arrivals continue to rebuild with more than 12,000 Kiwis visiting the destination in September.

The 12,167 figure achieved for the month represents a 7.8 per cent increase over the 11,209 figure achieved for the same period in 2008

Tourism Fiji regional director New Zealand Sala Toganivalu said the result further underlined Fiji’s re-emergence as one of New Zealand’s most popular overseas holiday spots with year to date figures now falling just shy of 70,000.

Ms Toganivalu said the 69,695 year to date tally, while still 12 per cent short of the 79,265, achieved in the same period in 2008 remained a very far cry from the 32 per cent deficit recorded from New Zealand for the first three months of the year.

“We have in effect regained 20 percent of our lost market share in the period,” she said.

While almost 27 per cent down in the first three months of the year, international visitor arrivals again grew steadily to reach 390,565, just 11.2 per cent short of the 440,061 achieved for the same period in the record breaking 2008.

Visitor numbers ex-Australia, the EU and China also recorded positive growth.
