First Omicron case found in the US
The Omicron variant has made landfall in the US. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the person is located in San Francisco. The individual arrived from South Africa before travel restrictions were put in place.
The person is fully vaccinated and has ‘mild symptoms.’
The US administration is expected to announce tightened travel rules for inbound travelers today. It will require pre-travel tests taken just 24 hours before departure.
