Florida beach re-opens after rare double shark attack

North Florida’s Fernandina Beach has reopened after a rare double shark attack.

Surfers returned to the waters after two almost simultaneous attacks by sharks left two people with bites to the foot.

Both were non-life threatening and the victims are recovering.

Fernandina Beach Fire Department received a call that a 30-year-old man was bitten and then almost immediately a call came of another shark attack about a mile away.

The beach was closed off due to ‘dangerous marine life’ but reopened at the weekend.

The first victim Dustin Theobald, described the shark as about 4-5 feet in length.

“Blood started pouring out and there was a trail of blood all the way up to the lifeguard stand,” Theobald told First Coast News.

The second shark attack victim also suffered puncture wounds to the foot.

The 17-year old was only wading in shallow water when the attack occurred.

It is still unclear whether it was the same or two separate sharks.

Shark attacks are extremely rare in this part of Florida, authorities said.
