Florida tourism is on course for another record year after recording a third quarter high of 23.7 million visitors.
Gov. Rick Scott says the Sunshine State is on track for a fourth consecutive record year based on current estimates.
"Florida’s thriving tourism industry is vital to growing jobs, and today’s report that Florida has experienced three record quarters so far in 2014, putting the state on pace for a fourth consecutive record year, is great news for Florida families," said Scott.
"Tourism is a huge generator of jobs for our state and we invested $74 million into VISIT FLORIDA to create more opportunities."
So far for the first three quarters, tourism marketing agency VISIT FLORIDA estimates that the state has welcomed 73.9 million visitors.
Visitor spending for the January-August period is up 7.3% this year to $55.6 billion.
"Florida’s tourism industry continues to break records for visitation, employment and visitor spending," said Andrew Hertz, chair of VISIT FLORIDA, adding that almost 3 million overseas tourists visited the state during the last three months.
"Florida tourism’s continued strength across all metrics indicates that we are well on our way to making Florida the No. 1 travel destination in the world," added Will Seccombe, CEO of VISIT FLORIDA.
