Frontier Airlines passengers to undergo pre-flight temperature screening
Budget carrier Frontier Airlines will start mandatory temperature checks for passengers and crew before boarding flights.
Frontier is the first carrier in the US to conduct pre-flight health screenings.
Non-invasive thermometer checks will begin prior to boarding from June 1, the airline said.
Passengers with a high temperature will be initially denied boarding.
If a passenger is denied they will be rebooked on another flight.
"This new step during the boarding process, coupled with face coverings, will serve to provide Frontier customers an assurance that their well-being is our priority," Frontier CEO Barry Biffle said in a statement.
Echoing a call by Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly, Biffle wants to see temperature screening for all passengers of every airline conducted at TSA checkpoints.
"In the meantime, Frontier intends to conduct its own temperature screenings until such a plan is put in place," Biffle said.
Meanwhile the TSA just announced that all screeners will finally be required to wear face masks.
