Low cost carriers Frontier and Spirit Airlines said they will finally get onboard and join the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program.
The two airlines are the last two major carriers not to participate in the TSA’s expedited screening program, which costs travelers $85 to enrol for a five-year period.
Frontier said it will join the program by the beginning of August and Spirit by the fall.
Until they officially get onboard with PreCheck, passengers of the airline cannot use priority screening lines even if they have already enrolled.
The reason why both carriers are only just now joining the program is primarily due to technology issues.
The companies’ reservations systems did not have the capability to integrate sufficiently with TSA systems.
That will change by July 31 when system upgrades are completed.
