Gatwick Express MD to leave
David Stretch, managing director of Gatwick Express, is leaving the company to become director of communications at Gatwick Airport.
He will be succeeded by Peter Cotton, who was MD of Gatwick Express before Stretch joined. He was then MD of ScotRail and more recently has been working for National Express.
The future of the Gatwick Express service remains uncertain as the Department for Transport continues to assess the two sets of scheduling proposals put forward by National Express/BAA and Govia/Southern railways.
According to BAR UK, which respresents 92 scheduled airlines in their dealings with the government, regulators and airport operators, a decision is not expected in the short term.
“Representations need to be maintained to retain the future of Gatwick Express now, and for the long-term future. Those representations continue to be made by BAR UK and from abroad,” said a BAR UK spokeswoman.
The association said Stretch will continue to be a valuable ally in the campaign to maintain the rail service.
