Passengers taking the train to Gatwick airport this week are being advised to allow extra time, as a five-day Monday-Friday strike is expected to disrupt travel.
The Gatwick Express and Thameslink services are expected to operate as normal, but services will be very busy as around 40% of Southern Rail have been cancelled between today and Friday, the last day of the strike.
In a statement on its website Gatwick airport advised passengers to ‘please allow extra time for your journey to the airport’.
During the strike, first class on Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink services will be declassified to free up seats.
Passengers with first-class tickets will be entitled to a refund for the difference between a first-class ticket and a standard-class ticket on the affected dates.
