Georgia lawmakers punish Delta for ditching NRA

Georgia state lawmakers have made good their threat to deprive Delta Air Lines of a multi-million dollar fuel tax cut.

Both the state House and Senate passed bills with the jet fuel tax exemption removed in retaliation at Delta cutting ties with the NRA.

Republican Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle had called for lawmakers to penalize the airline for ‘attacking conservative values.’

Delta last week stop offering NRA members discounted fares in the wake of the February 14 school shooting in Florida.

The tax exemption would have saved Delta about $40 million.

Since the threat from Cagle several states including Connecticut, New York and Virginia have been trying to lure Delta into relocating but that seems highly unlikely given Delta’s huge commitment at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson Airport and decades long history there.

It is also the state’s largest employer.
