German tourist murdered on Thai island

Police presence has been stepped up on the Thai island of Koh Sichang after a German tourist was raped and murdered.
Thai officials say it remains safe for tourists as a suspect was arrested and charged.
The victim was named as Miriam Beelte, 27 who was visiting the island on a trip from Pattaya.
She was attacked by local man Ronnakorn Romreun who has since admitted the offence.
The woman’s body was discovered by another tourist on an isolated hill which was partly hidden underneath bracken.
Ronnakorn was charged with rape, murder and concealing a corpse.
Koh Sichang is a relatively quiet island which receives far fewer foreign tourists than many Thai islands but is a popular weekend getaway for Thais.
