If you’re from Sydney, go and make a cup of coffee or something, this has nothing to do with you at all. For all Melbournians, who according to Paul Keating, are just “camping out”, listen well.
The best way for Melbournians to get to Europe is with Emirates because they fly direct from Melbourne (and Perth) to Dubai with a double daily service which of course, means that you can get to Europe with only one stop.
The greatest advantage of flying directly out of Melbourne is the avoidance of that hideous cross tarmac trek at the overcrowded, overused and overrated Sydney Airport.
So many airlines just don’t get it.
It seems that nearly 90% of all international flights into and out of Australia go via Sydney and if you live in another city such as Melbourne, you simply have to cop it.
Don’t get all hissy now Sydney, we do like you, we just don’t need to see that much of you.
Sydney people have no idea what an inconvenience it is to have to fly domestically and then catch a bus over to the international terminal to make the connection. It adds at least another half a day’s travel to an already long flight.
But if it’s an early flight out of Sydney, it can often mean an overnight in Sydney for Melbournians and other city dwellers…………and if Sydneysiders don’t understand, the airlines certainly don’t.
That’s why I’m on Emirates………….I think they understand becauseyhey have scheduled services out of Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and that other place somewhere in New South Wales.
And the passengers love it – there’s a bum on nearly every seat, the flights are full and the loadings are strong.
And for those travelling further afield and venturing on to Europe, particularly Dublin, which is what I am doing, the Emirates service connects with Aer Lingus in Dubai perfectly, with both airlines working hand in hand for a seamless service, the trip through to Ireland is completed quickly.
Well, that’s what you get when you have a good product and match it with schedules that actually suit people, not the beancounters.
