Global Entry program restarts as DHS partial shutdown continues

The Global Entry expedited traveler program has restarted at airports.

The Department of Homeland Security had halted it at the outset of the partial government shutdown.

Global Entry is one of the paid verified traveler programs which enables passengers to skip lines when entering the US off an arriving international flight.

Homeland Security had originally planned to suspend the program during the course of the partial shutdown to redeploy CBP staffers amid long lines.

As the shutdown continues, more airports across the country are reporting long lines at security screening for domestic and international flights, with some airports advising passengers to check in three hours ahead of their flight.

Up to 300 TSA officers have reportedly quit since the start of the DHS shutdown.

The 50,000 TSA officers stationed at airports around the country are going unpaid due to the DHS funding impasse.
