Google helps hunt for Loch Ness Monster

Friday, 24 April 20153 min read

One of the big stories this week is the news that Google has joined the hunt for the evasive Loch Ness Monster (well, kind of). The search engine has taken its street view technology to the Loch Ness in Scotland to update its presence on Google Maps. It currently reports around 200,000 searches each month for the Loch Ness Monster, and around 120,000 for information and accommodation close to Loch Ness. Google has even created a specialised ‘Street View Pegman’ dressed as Nessie which can be used when exploring the area.

People living in Peckham, South London, have been baffled by a mysterious sculpture of the Taj Mahal which has been spotted in the area. The sculpture in question is made entirely out of toast and a mysterious dark spread for stability and is creating quite a stir on social media. No one knows the exact origin of this edible masterpiece, but we’re sure to be keeping an eye on the official #ToastMahal hashtag.

This week we’ve been experiencing major Instagram and travel envy, courtesy of a Jet-setting Nordic couple who spend their days visiting beautiful countries and giving back to the communities they visit. Samuel and Hildegunn Taipale’s are posting a stream of amazing photos to their social media accounts from their travels around the world and in turn people around the world are tuning in. Samuel’s job as a photographer allows the twosome to visit some of the most stunning places on earth such as Iceland, New Zealand and the Philippines giving them plenty of social media fodder, which has led to the couple amassing a collective 132.4k followers.
