Lawmakers on the Pacific island of Guam have sent a letter to United Airlines management asking for comments relating to a series of mid-air mishaps due to mechanical issues.
"The people of Guam are rightfully concerned with the mechanical issues that have been faced by United Airlines," said Guam Senator Brant McCreadie.
My colleagues and I want to ensure that United Airlines is aware of how important an issue this is to the people of Guam."
The senators want United Airlines to address the mechanical issues and set a timetable for replacing current aircraft to ensure "the lives and the livelihoods of the people of Guam" are not affected.
On August 5, a United flight from Guam to Honolulu had to return due to an unspecified "maintenance issue."
Anoher Guam-Honolulu flight last month had to make an emergency landing on remote Midway Island on its way to Hawaii because of what United called a "mechanical issue."
McCreadie acknowledged United Airlines’ importance to the island community but wants to see measures in place to ensure mechanical issues do not deteriorate further.
