Hawaii again posted record highs for visitor arrivals and tourism spending in 2016.
Arrivals were up 3% to 8.9 million, while spending topped 4% to $15.6 billion.
It was the fifth consecutive year for record growth in both categories, the Hawaii Tourism Authority said.
HTA president and CEO George D. Szigeti said tourism added an extra 15,000 jobs in the state in 2015 to an estimated 190,000.
"We are committed to maintaining this positive momentum in 2017, while also assessing as to how HTA can collaborate with industry partners and community advocates to ensure that promoting tourism is balanced with the perpetuation of Hawaiian culture and protection of Hawaii’s natural resources," Szigeti said.
Cruise ship traffic was down 7% to 108,976 visitors in 2016, due to eight fewer cruise ship arrivals compared to the previous year.
