High winds hit Carnival Triumph; security guard lost in Mobile River
It’s been rough sailing for the Carnival Triumph lately, and the news got even worse yesterday.
A high wind blew through Mobile, Alabama, tore the ship from its dock, and blew a man into the Mobile River. As of press time this morning, he was still missing.
The man was one of two security guards at the BAE Shipyard whose hut was tossed into the river by near-hurricane-force winds. The other man was saved by the Coast Guard.
The Triumph drifted for several hours before being secured at the Alabama Cruise Terminal last night.
It’s been at the shipyard since February, when it made headlines for four days after being crippled in the Gulf of Mexico.
"The search continues for the second pier worker," Carnival said in a statement posted on Twitter last night. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the missing shipyard employee and the family."
Carnival had planned to keep the ship out of service until June, and improve its ability to operate on backup power.
