Holiday island sets up task force to patrol resorts

Bali has set up a special task force to provide rapid response in cases of crime and accidents involving foreign tourists on the island.

Officers patrolling popular tourist resorts including Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua will be able to take on-the-spot statements from tourists, removing the need for them to visit police stations to file reports.

Bali police director for tourism security Adi S. Putra, Bali said: "We want to be proactive and do not have to wait for reports when something happens to tourists."

Adi said the teams were not yet operating around the clock.

The Bali Central Bureau of Statistics said 2.82 million foreign tourists visited Bali in 2011, a 9.72 % increase over the previous year.according to Bali police, 177 of them were victims of crime while holidaying on the island.
