Predictions are that rising gas prices could hamper summer air travel plans, so what can leisure travelers do about it?
The reasons for the price hikes are simple: a pickup in demand and soaring fuel prices.
The first advice from just about all experts is not to delay buying your airline ticket.
“Take my advice: do not delay getting your summer vacation airfare,” says Rick Seaney, CEO of FareCompare.
He adds on his site: “If you’d normally wait until a couple of weeks before departure to get your airline tickets, don’t – not this year. Buy at least a month ahead of time.”
Travel expert Patricia Schultz writing in Parade’s “7-Minute Solution” column, also recommends getting your airline ticket first.
“Prices are rising, so the sooner you finalize your airfare, the better. You’ll have plenty of time to book a hotel afterward, because there tends to be more lodging options,” she writes.
She also urges comparing websites.
If you don’t have to travel on a specific date, check within a three-day range because prices can vary a lot.
When it comes to when you want to fly, click “anytime.” Also, look for packages combining air-hotel, for example.
Cheapflights has more advice:
“Be prepared to take control of your own travel costs through more deals research.”
