Huge Atlantis plans $1 billion expansion
The Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, which now has 2,317 rooms, expects to have 3,367 rooms by spring of 2007, officials said.
The rooms are part of a $1 billion expansion at the 65-acre resort. Two pools are also planned, as well as more beaches, a fitness center, restaurants and another casino.
Atlantis also plans to double meeting space with another 100,000 square feet.
The Caribbean’s largest water park is also part of the expansion. The 48-acre park will include a 68-foot-tall water slide and a children’s village.
Rates have not been set but the resort will begin taking reservations late this spring or early summer, said Susan Lomax, vice president of resort public relations.
