IMEX America issues fraud alert for delegates
Organisers of the global meetings exhibition, IMEX, have issued an alert to delegates about ‘fraudulent behavior’ by hotel discounters posing as partners for the Las Vegas event.
More than 3,000 suppliers, global tourist offices, convention bureaus, hotel companies, cruise lines, airlines, event venues and event companies will meet with 4,000 meetings buyers in Vegas on October 16-18.
But organisers have warned delegates they may be approached by hotel discounters claiming to be associated with the show.
"Many of these discounters are known to engage in fraudulent behavior such as not providing the room described at the time of booking," it said.
"Unfortunately, we won’t be able to help you if you book through one of these companies."
It issued a list of companies not associated with IMEX and instead recommended delegates to use its official room block supplier, The Venetian/The Palazzo.
It also warned delegates they may be contacted by data bank companies claiming to have information on IMEX participants, assuring them that IMEX does not give out or sell our buyer or exhibitor data.
