JetBlue has started to roll out its first fully-integrated biometric self-boarding procedure at New York’s JFK Airport.
In collaboration with Customs and Border Protection, it is available for passengers flying to select international destinations out of Terminal 5.
A dual-lane gate verifies travelers with photo capture facial recognition tech.
The airline first launched biometric boarding last year which has grown to 500 flights from four airports, handling more than 50,000 customers so far.
"The boarding touchpoint is an area that needs innovation and we feel biometrics will change the future of air travel as we look to create a more seamless journey," said Ian Deason, senior vice president of customer experience, JetBlue.
The airline also announced a new one-step biometric boarding procedure at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport for JetBlue customers traveling to Nassau, Bahamas.
The carrier plans to expand biometric boarding further at New York-JFK, Boston and Fort Lauderdale in the near future and will trial a new biometric bag drop station at New York JFK early in 2019.
