JetBlue to start Cuba flights next month
JetBlue is set to be the first US carrier to fly to Cuba in more than 50 years after announcing a launch date of August 31.
Pending approval from the Cuban government, the low-cost airline will start flying from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport to Santa Clara Abel Santamaria Airport.
Flights will operate three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and will then go daily from October 1.
On November 3, JetBlue will also launch daily flights to Camaguey Ignacio Agramonte Airport and a week later will start flying daily to Holguin Frank Pais Airport.
"It’s a new day for Cuba travelers and one we have thoughtfully prepared for," said Marty St. George, executive vice president commercial and planning.
"We are proud to usher in a new era of Cuba travel with affordable fares and great service."
JetBlue’s fares start at $99 one-way and include Cuban government-required health insurance.
Flights will be operated on Airbus A320 aircraft.
American Airlines and Silver Airways have also announced their Cuba launch dates, but not until September.
Back in June, six US airlines were given permission to launch Cuba flights from the US Department of Transportation.
JetBlue has also been tentatively awarded flights between Havana and three US cities. It said it would announce a start date and fares for Havana later this year.
