Lights go out on Broadway as all theaters closed
The usual maxim is ‘the show must go on’ but for now, the bright lights of Broadway have gone dark.
All New York theaters are now closed for at least a month after a ban on gatherings of more than 500 people came into effect.
Theaters around Times Square have put notices about the closure and have started issuing ticket refunds.
No productions will run until mid-April.

According to theater trade organization the Broadway League, it will have a major impact on New York City tourism.
Broadway attracted nearly 15 million theatergoers last year.
The ban on gatherings covers a whole range of major Big Apple tourist spots, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Opera, and Carnegie Hall.
All major league sport across the country is also suspended.
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency in the city on Thursday.
There are now more than 300 confirmed cases of coronavirus and de Blasio predicts that could spike to 1,000 by next week.
