Long-haul travel could be putting thousand of passengers at risk of having a stroke, according to a vascular specialist. According to a report in the Daily Mail, a study has found that passengers are dying just hours after getting off long-haul flights because of having their movement restricted by cramped conditions. The newspaper quotes George Geroulakos, a consultant at London’s Charing Cross hospital, who has reportedly found 12 cases of passengers suffering strokes after long flights. He reportedly said: “This little-known condition needs further investigation as the link between a stroke and long flights has never been made before. It could be extremely rare or it could be more common than we imagine.” He added: People must not be scared – there is a smaller risk than getting DVT.” The consultant is now keen for doctors to check if passengers with strokes have recently been on any long-haul flights.
