Italian low-cost airline Windjet has suspended all flights after the failure of takeover talks with Alitalia.
Hundreds of passengers have been left stranded on one of Italy’s busiest travel weekends and around 300,000 people had forward bookings.
The airline stopped all flights from midnight on Saturday.
According to local media, the Italian aviation authority ENAC had been expected to revoke the airline’s operating licence on Sunday.
The ENAC has set up a crisis centre to help passengers affected.
Windjet, based in Sicily, had been in operation since 2003.
