Marco Polo sold by NCL
Orient Lines parent company Norwegian Cruise Line has reportedly sold the company’s single vessel Marco Polo.
According to US reports, the 42-year-old vessel, one of the oldest in operation, will leave the fleet on March 23, 2008.
No details of a buyer were given or on the future of Orient Lines, which would be left with no ship.
But Colin Veitch, president fo both lines, reportedly said Marco Polo will have “a new lease of life serving a new market under an established brand” from next summer.
He said: “We have said for the past two years that all of our older ships would progressively leave the fleet as our new, purpose-built Freestyle Cruising ships arrived and the timing of Marco Polo’s departure always revolved around finding a good next owner, and I am pleased to say we have found one.
“This unique ship will, from the summer of 2008, have a new lease of life serving a new market under an established brand. The new owner will be announcing the acquisition very soon.”
