Marriott is bringing the world’s tallest modular hotel to New York City.

The new 26-story AC by Marriott will take shape in NoMad.

It will start stacking up from the fall this year and is expected to open in late 2020.

The 360-feet-tall tower will feature 168 rooms and the initial modular construction phase will take just 90 days.

"In North America, the construction process hasn’t changed significantly in 150 years and it’s ripe for innovation," said Eric Jacobs, Marriott’s chief development officer, North America, for select and extended stay brands.

"The world’s tallest modular hotel will act as a game-changing symbol."

The prefabricated guestrooms will be ready inside and out before installation.

The company says it has been researching the benefits of modular construction since 2014 to speed up a lengthy development pipeline.

Since then it has opened 31 hotels using some form of modular construction, however all of these so far have been low-rise hotels.

This is the moment where modular construction takes center stage," said Danny Forster of Danny Forster & Architecture, which designed the project.

"We wanted to demonstrate that modular building can do more than just harness the efficiencies of the factory. It can produce a graceful and iconic tower."
