Friday, 27 July 20183 min read

Marriott International has confirmed the date for the planned three-way merger of its loyalty programs.

On August 18 Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest will have the same features and benefits.

From that date all points from the programs will merge into one single balance.

At the same time a new Starwood SPG app will go live which replicates the functionality of Marriott Rewards program.

The company is warning members of likely disruption on merger day.

"Our systems will be down much of August 18 to launch your new member experience. In addition, you may experience temporary disruptions in making reservations and accessing your account via our websites, apps and call centers for a period of time following this systems outage," a Marriott statement said.

Marriott expects members to earn about 20% more points per dollar spent as a result of the changes.
