Meeting Focus: Colorado Springs
It’s Colorado’s second largest city but it shares Denver’s climate with 300 annual days of sunshine. And while it has smaller facilities, it shares many of Denver’s lures such as outdoor activities and the majestic Rocky Mountains.
It’s admittedly a "second tier" destination but it has "first-tier city amenities," according to Kathy Reak, director of convention sales for Experience Colorado Springs.
"The natural scenic beauty of the Rocky Mountains, Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods sets the stage for the inspirational and uplifting experience," she said.
The area has 14,000 guestrooms, including 20 full-service hotels. Many such as the historic Broadmoor are undergoing renovations. Its renovation of common rooms is due to be complete anytime. The Broadmoor has 185,000 square feet of flexible meeting space including 60 meeting rooms.
The Garden of the Gods, a unique and popular rock formation, has a club with 10,000 square feet of meeting space. From here, visitors get a breathtaking view of Pikes Peak. The club property has a 27-hole championship golf course, gourmet dining options, a sports club, tennis courts and swimming pools.
The Colorado Springs US Olympic Training Center now offers meeting space with more than 20 rooms spread across its 32 acres. The facility offers audiovisual equipment and satellite communications. Meeting groups can also convene outside.
The Colorado Springs area offers various team-building events. At the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide, for example, groups can take walks in the mountains accompanied by wolves.
Colorado Springs has its own airport only 11 miles from downtown. Denver is just 70 miles away. Mass transit options include Amtrak.
