Miami cruise passengers delayed after fatal ferry accident
PortMiami has now reopened to all cruise ship traffic after fatal ferry accident.
Access to the cruise terminals was limited to several hours yesterday after a collision near Dodge Island.
A yacht struck a Fisher Island Ferry, killing one person.
Several thousand cruise passengers ready to embark or returning to PortMiami were delayed.
The restrictions lasted about 11 hours.
The US Coast Guard closed the port to remove the sunken yacht and for divers to retrieve the victims body.
Around 16,000 passengers on three cruise ships were forced to wait it out in the ocean.
A similar number due to depart were forced to wait in the port terminals.
A delayed passenger said a ‘couple of fistfights broke out’ among delayed passengers waiting to board ships.
