More Heathrow disruption following British Airways’ IT glitch
British Airways apologised to stranded customers after its latest IT meltdown.
British Airways said ’technical issues’ were resolved but the fallout was still causing disruption early Thursday at Heathrow.
Multiple flights out of Terminal 5 were cancelled or delayed.
The airline apologised and ‘deeply regretted’ having to cancel flights.
There were hours-long delays for passengers on Wednesday, with many complaining of a lack of communication.
About 50 departures were cancelled and several inbound flights were rerouted to other airports.
“We experienced a technical issue for a short time which affected our operation at Heathrow Terminal 5,” a BA spokesperson said.
BA said that the problem stemmed from a localised system failure.
BA is offering refunds or rebooking on other flights, plus refreshment vouchers and hotel stays for those who were stranded overnight.
“We’re very sorry to say that as a result of the technical issue we experienced yesterday and predicted weather disruption, we have had to reduce our schedule at Heathrow today, an airline spokesperson said early Thursday.
Last month BA suffered a major outage, leading to the cancellation of 500 flights.
