MSC Cruises developing exclusive private Bahamian island

MSC Cruises has confirmed plans to develop a private marine reserve island in the Bahamas.
Called Ocean Cay MSC, it is being touted as the largest Caribbean island development by a cruise company and the only one on a marine reserve.
Work will begin in March 2016 on the island, which is about 20 miles south of Bimini and 65 miles east of Miami.
MSC said it will invest $200 million building a 2,000-seat amphitheatre, water sports facilities, and a Bahamian village complex with shops and restaurants.
There will also be six beaches and purpose-built berth and pier.
"This is a natural progression for our company, which is growing very rapidly, and we are thrilled about providing this totally new experience for our guests in the Caribbean," said MSC Cruises executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago.
Ships will begin serving the island from late 2017, the cruise line said.
