Nepal: Better or Worse?

Tuesday, 4 November 20083 min read

There has been some buzz in the travel media world about Nepal. The new government, erstwhile Maoist insurgents coming overground and into power, and the effect this has had on the perception of Nepal by tourists and the tourism travel industry.

There might have been concerns of traveling to Nepal, because of a change in Government to a communist one, but in the ground, we hardly noticed it. Inquiries to come to Nepal are up, and the mailboxes are flooding again, as Nepal find new found pull and travelers are reassured by positive travel advisories and media reports. For the first time in 10 years, we heard again that the remote Manang Valley in the Annapurna was flooded with tourists this Fall season.

Mind you, Nepal’s tourism arrivals were on the rise anyways, it has been growing since the slump in 2001, albeit slowly, but this year, surely, it has taken a leap.

Hopefully, this trend will survive this crash in the Financial world. Nepal’s future depends on it!
