New cruise policy: no tip - TravelMole

New cruise policy: no tip

Friday, 13 Dec, 2011 0

The move towards mandatory tipping continues as P&O Cruises says it will replace its traditional method of tipping with fixed-rate tipping, automatically added to passenger bills at the rate of about $5 per person, per day, starting next year.

According to P&O's Managing Director Carol Marlow, the policy is aimed at reducing “awkwardness and confusion” for passengers over the subject of tipping while helping to ensure gratuity levels for staff stay consistent. The tips will cover both dining staff and cabin stewards.

The fixed rate is the same rate the line has currently set as its suggested daily rate for tipping.

This rate, however, does not include the automatic service charge per day for passengers who choose Freedom Dining on Oceana, Ventura and Azura.
