New cybersecurity rules to be mandated for airlines
The Transportation Security Administration will issue new data security rules to beef up data breach protection for the airline and rail industries.
Under proposals, the TSA will mandate companies to report cybersecurity incidents to the federal government, identify in-house cybersecurity specialists and set up contingency and recovery plans in the event of a cyberattack.
It follows high-profile outages and data breach incidents at airlines and third party IT suppliers. The new standards are likely to be imposed by the year-end.
