OmniTourism announces ORIGIN.NET software for Destinations
OmniTourism has revealed that its release last month of the first .NET interface to the England Net platform is only part of its broader development of a new generation of software, ORIGIN.NET
One of Europe’s leading suppliers of Destination Management Systems for the past two decades, OmniTourism is building ORIGIN.NET upon the wealth of experience gained from supplying many of Europe’s leading destinations with the renowned Integra product, licensed by 75 tourist offices.
Based around Microsoft’s .NET framework ORIGIN.NET facilitates OmniTourism’s global strategy for connecting systems, information, and devices in order that users can collaborate and communicate more effectively. The technology is integrated throughout the Microsoft product portfolio providing the capability to quickly build, deploy, manage, and use connected, security-enhanced solutions through the use of standard, platform independent protocols such as XML (Extensible Mark-up Language), SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol).
The choice of .Net as a base will enable OmniTourism to offer a wide range of distribution opportunities for those destinations that wish to maximise the use of their content. In addition to the EnglandNet deployment, work already carried out will allow for elements of the new technology to be used within the current product range. This will include greater use of content portals and distribution exchanges including OmniTourism’s Internet Content Exchange (ICE) for rich media that has amongst its client’s ebookers, travelocity, orbitz and other notables with 500 million visitors to their collective web sites. OmniTourism clients will have seamless distribution through its Destination Net network.
A partial role-out of ORIGIN.NET a fully centralised system, hosted or otherwise, with browser based connectivity is planned to be available in the second quarter of 2005. The new ORIGIN.NET application, which is being designed in conjunction with the OmniTourism user group, is planned to be deployed during the third quarter of 2005. . Net compliancy will further enhance the work already underway that allows the distribution of tourism content to hand held devices in a contextulised and personalised manner utilizing imode handsets and WIFI communications.
