Operator issues ban on mobile phones
A tour operator has banned the use of mobile phones on its tours following demand from customers.
The Adventure Company said tourists on selected trips next year will be required to hand in their phones to the group leader at the start of the itinerary and only get them back at the end.
Managing director Mark Wright said people are sick and tired of their holidays in some of the world’s most tranquil settings being interrupted by ringing phones.
The first mobile-free holiday departs for the Indian Himalayas next May.
“These holidays will guarantee peace and quiet for the entire duration of the holiday,” said Wright. “People are fed-up with mobile phones ringing around them when they on holiday. They are also increasingly frustrated that, by carrying a mobile phone, that can be reached by anyone back in the office.”
Other mobile-free trips are being planned for Morocco, Iceland and Peru.
