Opodo finds Scowsill’s replacement
Two of Europe’s major online agents have made changes to their senior management teams.
Opodo has appointed ex-Thomas Cook executive, Simon Vincent to the role of chief executive following the departure of David Scowsill, who quit Opodo less than a month after Amadeus took a controlling stake in the online travel service.
Mr Vincent was managing director of tour operations at Thomas Cook in 2001 and 2002 and before that held a number of roles including chief operating officer and managing director of JMC Holidays. More recently he was chief executive of experiences sellers, Red Letter Days, before working on management buy-in opportunities in the leisure sector with private equity houses.
He takes over from acting chief executive Bart Tompkins, who will return to his role at Amadeus of director of e-commerce investment.
Online rivals ebookers has also made some additions to its management. It has poached Expedia’s regional revenue manager for destination packages, AJ Moreno, to take the role of director of hotel supply EMEA.
A second appointment is Bas Lemmens, who takes the same role, of director of hotel supply, for the Americas and Caribbean region. Mr Lemmens comes from Netherlands-based hotel reservation company, Bookings, or www.bookings.nl.
Ebookers says its is boosting its hotels team in a bid to reach its target of 50% sales in non-air.
