Over 100 dead after ferry capsizes in storm
More than 100 people have been confirmed dead after a ferry capsized in India.
The boat, carrying about 350 passengers, broke in two in heavy winds and rain in a river in a remote part of north-eastern India.
Around 150 passengers are reported to have swam to safety or were rescued by nearby villagers.
But it is feared that others were swept away on the Brahmaputra river, in Assam state.
The Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, has issued a statement expressing his shock and grief at the incident.
An inquiry is due to be launched into the precise cause.
