OzJet almost there
Reports on Friday suggested that OzJet, the much awaited fourth domestic carrier, may be close to gaining regulatory approval after conducting a test flight under the watchful eyes of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
A return Sydney to Melbourne flight was conducted to prove that the fledgling carrier was able to meet both passenger safety requirements and respond adequately to inflight emergencies.
Csa stated that it would need to wait until today, Monday, to assess the flight results, but provided there were no major issues, OzJet could have its Air Operators Certificate withihn a week.
OzJet spokesman Geoff Harris said: “We weren’t going to make any noise about what is happening today because we don’t think it’s the sort of thing that we think we ought to be talking about.”
One imagines when the green light is given, there will be plenty for OzJet to talk about, as cynics still suggest the airline is going to have to wage a strong publicity campaign to woo Business travellers away from their regular flights, comfortable lounges and cherished frequent flyer scheme.
