OzJet prepares for start
Australia’s latest Airline entrant, OzJet, is working towards a November take -off after the Civil Aviation Safety Authority confirmed the airline was in the final stages of gaining its Air Operators Certificate.
The airline, configured as all-business-class, is preparing for eight daily return flights between Sydney and Melbourne with its three 60-seat 737-200s. Having set up a call centre, appointed a caterer, and secured access to Sydney Airport’s Terminal 2, OzJet is now training it 35 cabin crew.
However, the fledgling airline still appears to have many hurdles to jump before it can compete with the established competitors. It’s ageing fleet will consume considerably more fuel raising cost concerns. More importantly, for business travellers, it has no frequent flyer scheme and no comfortable passenger lounges.
