Passengers left high and dry by Sun Princess
Sun Princess has been forced to cancel its first sailing since a US$30 million refit in dry dock.
The cruise line said a switchboard malfunction resulted in limited onboard power, which hindered its ability to run hotel operations.
The power failure affected the ship’s air conditioning, cabin lighting, toilet systems and galley.
Sun Princess was due to embark on a 14-night Asia cruise from Singapore on Tuesday, ending in Fremantle. About 2,000 passengers were due to sail on the ship.
Princess Cruises said it would provide all passengers with a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit. "Additionally, we’re covering the costs for all return flights home and incidentals."
The cruise line has flown staff to Singapore to assist disappointed passengers.
Princess says the Sun Princess’ next sailing – an 11-night cruise from Fremantle to Singapore scheduled for September 3 – would go ahead as planned after repairs are made.
