Phuket ‘sandbox’ scheme to continue despite tourist murder
The Phuket ‘sandbox’ tourist scheme will continue as normal, the Thai PM says, after a Swiss tourist was found murdered on the island. Thai authorities have reportedly arrested a suspect after the woman was found dead.
There is intense scrutiny on Thailand and Phuket in particular, and how authorities deal with the case as the victim is thought to be a senior Swiss government official.
Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the island remains safe for visiting tourists but acknowledged that increased CCTV surveillance is needed;
