Qantas and ANZ sign codeshare agreement
Australasia’s big two carriers Air New Zealand and Qantas have announced plans for a wide-ranging codeshare agreement covering more than 100 domestic routes in the region.
Qantas will add its code on as many as 30 domestic New Zealand routes operated by Air NZ, while the Kiwi carrier will codeshare on up to 85 routes on Qantas’ Australian domestic network.
Tickets for codeshare services can be booked from the end of July 2018, for travel starting from 28 October 2018.
The airlines are touting shorter connection times and seamless check-in procedures for faster journeys overall.
Eligible customers may also make use of a total of 36 domestic lounges in both Australia and New Zealand when travelling on codeshare flights.
"While the two airlines will continue to compete very strongly across all markets, Air New Zealand and Qantas are known for having a commitment to innovation, customer service excellence, operational performance and safety. We are confident that our respective customers will enjoy the reciprocal benefits," said Air NZ CEO Christopher Luxon.
The codeshare pact includes only domestic services and not cross border Trans-Tasman flights although Qantas will continue to codeshare on connecting Jetstar New Zealand services.
