Qantas increasing domestic capacity
With travel restrictions slowly easing Qantas group is ramping up flight capacity across Australia.
Qantas and Jetstar announced a sizeable increase in domestic and regional services with 300 more flights a week by late June.
It will see capacity at about 15% of pre-pandemic levels compared to the current 5%.
There will be a big increase on key routes such as Sydney-Melbourne as well as regional flights out of Broome, Cairns and Rockhampton.
Qantas expects to add additional flights in July depending on overall travel demand and further easing of inter-state travel restrictions.
"The one million people who work in tourism around Australia have been really hurting over the past few months. These additional flights are an important first step to help get more people out into communities that rely on tourism and bring a much-needed boost to local businesses," said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.
To help contain any further Covid-19 spread during travel, the two airlines are rolling out more contact-less check-in machines, enhanced aircraft and airport terminal cleaning, and free masks and wipes for all passengers.
