Record WTM reflects upturn for industry, says Jeffery
This year’s World Travel Market is set for a record year, according to its organisers.
In the 25th anniversary of the event, more than 5,000 exhibitors are expected, taking up 39,500 square metres of space.
Reed Travel Exhibition’s group exhibition director Fiona Jeffery said she was “cautiously forecasting a record event” to coincide with WTM’s silver anniversary.
She said: “There is a real sense of optimism among exhibitors this year and although it is difficult to forecast exactly how much larger it will be, there is a definite increase in confidence after three difficult years for the industry.”
She added: “The strength of the euro is determining business success, while the positive signs from the economies of the mature markets and some rebound from long-haul markets is seeing an increase in visitors to the majority of the European destinations.”
Among the 70 new exhibitors at this year’s event is Uzbekistan, who’s government is making a bid to boost tourism, and who’s national carrier, Uzbekistan Airways, offers flights from London and Birmingham.
