Irish authorities are urging people to stay indoors until 3pm today due to severe weather conditions across the country.
Met Eireann has issued a red weather warning across the country.
Public transport has been suspended and Dublin and Cork airports are closed.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office advised visitors to check with their travel provider before travelling and monitor local media and weather reports from the Irish Meteorological Service.
Red warnings have also been in place for Scotland, south Wales and parts of southwest England.
