Rex administrators announce further job cuts

Rex administrators announce further job cuts

Monday, 19 Aug, 2024 0

The administrators restructuring troubled regional airline Rex plan to approve the redundancies of about 70 more workers.

Since Rex went into voluntary administration last month, nearly 600 jobs were cut.

Mot of the jobs have gone from the capital city scheduled flights business which is now defunct and the reason for its collapse.

The regional business is still operating and the government has stepped in to ensure remote communities will still be served with flights.

The government is providing a refund guarantee to customers.

“At this stage, subject to the outcome of a consultation process, it is proposed that 73 current positions will become redundant,” the administrators wrote in an email to staff.

“No decisions have been made about which employees will be retrenched as a result of the redundancy of any position.”

“No final decision will be confirmed until we complete this consultation process.”

Roles under threat in this new wave of layoffs includes aircraft support officers, team leaders, customer services officers, flight/pilot trainees and call centre operators.

It doesn’t affect workers of the regional flight business, it says.

This will likely see Rex’s total workforce reduced to about 1,200 staff members
