Rio beaches temporarily closed
The famed beaches of Rio de Janeiro have been temporarily closed to stem the rising tide of Covid cases. The local government ordered the closure through Monday 22 March, forbidding all activities from sports to sunbathing and swimming.
It comes as Rio de Janeiro’s hospitals reached 95% capacity. The state government also closed Rio’s beaches last year for a temporary period. Brazil has recorded 12 million cases so far with nearly 300,000 related deaths.
