‘Round the World’ travel agent suffers setback
A travel agent who took on a Clipper Round the World Yacht Race has suffered a setback after her team’s yacht was caught in a violent storm on the Pacific leg of the race.
Bridget Keevil, a travel agency owner in Suffolk and self-confessed sailing novice, was on the deck of the Da Nang yacht between Vietnam and the US when it nearly capsized.
Husband Paul updated their blog – The Fat Bird & The Boat – to say: ‘Bridget was on deck when the wave hit, somewhere near the helm. She has a cut head and a black eye’.
The team has decided to retire from this leg of the race and motor the rest of the way to Seattle which means accepting last place for this leg.
Fellow agents gave their support via industry Facebook page, Travel Gossip, with one saying: ‘Bridget Keevil has been through a heck of a lot over the last few days, show some love to this brave lady!’
On her Just Giving page, Bridget describes being part of the ‘ABTA family’ for the last twenty five years, adding, ‘whereas it is not always the best paid industry, the people within it are passionate about travel – as am I’.
She took on the challenge to raise money for ABTA’s Lifeline charity.
